Although the six-hour length makes it nigh-impossible to digest in one sitting, this well-paced adaptation of Stephen King's apocalyptic magnum opus ranks among the best adaptations of the author's work, with strong performances from Gary Sinise, Miguel Ferrer, and especially Jamey Sheridan as a good-old-boy version of Old Scratch. The opening scene, set to the strains of Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear the Reaper," is one of the most chilling things ever shot for television. Director Mick Garris is no stranger to King's world, having also helmed Sleepwalkers, the recent television remake of The Shining, and the upcoming Desperation. --Andrew Wright

It is truly a masterpeice. The TV miniseries actually "fits". The casting is superb, the story stayed intact and the pacing is excellent. I have read (to the best of my knowledge) all of his works. The teleplay for The Stand was done by Stephen King...and you can tell it. A truly superior work. The cast of actors were perfectly fitted to the characters in the film. The stage sets and costumes spared no expense during the making of this movie as everything appeared so realistic without any noticed mistakes or oversights to ruin the film. Apparently a lot of time and effort went into the making of this film so it would turn out as perfect as it is. I'm a big fan of Stephen King's work, and this film sores to the top of that list. This film is a 1994 miniseries that runs 366 minutes in length. I own this title on DVD, and I'm not letting it go at any time in the future. This will be in my collection for a very very long time, if not forever. I understand this title is getting more and more difficult to buy. If you're lucky enough to buy this title, trust me, ... it's worth hanging on to. This is a must see movie. I highly recommend it. Great for collectors too.
